Westpak have been confirmed as one of the finalists at this year’s UK Packaging Awards. Westpak are shortlisted for the category of ‘Best New Concept’ for the development of HeatWave™ – a liner insert for takeaway pizza boxes that dramatically enhances the temperature of takeaway pizzas.
The ‘Heatwave’ design has been developed as a liner sheet that seamlessly fits into existing standardised cardboard pizza boxes to create a raised and aerated platform. The liner itself features a series of alternating concave and convex domes that also keep the surface-area in contact with the pizza base to a minimum. The aerated under-layer provides a highly effective thermal barrier, dramatically reducing heat dissipation through the base of the box.
Initial results show impressive heat savings: 12-inch pizzas have been shown to be 27% hotter after 15 minutes with the liner. Similarly, 10-inch pizza has been shown to be 22% hotter after 15 minutes.
Run by media brands ‘Emap’ and their ‘Packaging News’ brand, the UK Packaging Awards are renowned one of the industry’s most prestigious events with the winners to be 10th October at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
