Westpak Group Ltd are pleased to unveil their latest foodservice packaging innovation. Our new ‘tamper-evident’ delivery bags feature a strong adhesive seal to safeguard against food tampering. These paper-based carry bags are immediately available through our renowned, highly reliable supply chain.

The UK’s foodservice takeaway and delivery market remains incredibly strong. Research has shown, in fact, that the UK is the “third biggest online food delivery market in the world”(1). A key priority for foodservice brands operating in this market is enhancing user experience and building consumer trust. Consumers need to feel totally reassured that their orders have not been opened, altered, touched, or tampered with in any way from the moment the order is prepared until being collected, or delivered. While a number of foodservice brands may use stickers, staples and other methods of bag closure, these have largely remained inadequate and failed to create a standardised, recognised method of tamper-proofing.

Our latest packaging innovation aims to provide a reliable and seamless solution to this issue with a number of clear advantages around consumer experience, food safety and environmental sustainability. Our new tamper-evident bags feature large, single-use adhesive strips to form robust seals across the opening of the bag. This avoids the use of awkward (and potentially dangerous) staples or inadequate, non-integrated stickers. Our adhesive strip system also ensures our carry bags remain fully recyclable after use, maintaining the sustainable credentials of their paper-based material specification.

Seth Hicks, Managing Director at Westpak commented on this latest innovation, “the UK’s foodservice industry has been in need of an easy-to-use, reliable and safe carry bag sealing system to really put consumers’ minds at ease when it comes to food contamination. We’re hopeful that this new design will introduce a new standard for widespread uptake across the takeaway and delivery markets. We are constantly looking to work with the very best manufacturers – those that can bring something new, exciting and genuinely useful to the packaging market, and this latest innovation does exactly that”.

1. Revealing adhesive strips

Two adhesive strips can be found attached in each carry bag. These are positioned on each of the two inner sides – mounted to the handle fixing points. A protective cover can be easily removed to reveal the untarnished adhesive surface on each side. Once the food items have been placed inside the carry bag, the two adhesive strips can be joined for an extremely robust seal.

2. Creating a strong seal

By utilising an adhesive strip on each side of the bag, each strip bonds to an ideal mating surface, creating an incredibly strong seal. The length of each of the adhesive strips also makes it very difficult for any packaging tampering to occur at the outer edges of the bag. As well as protective against tampering, this design also provides and effective barrier to excessive rainfall, general dirt and other contaminants.

These bags are available immediately and can be specified in two versatile size options. The larger bag is ideal for carrying multiple items that can be positioned both side-by-side and stacked vertically. The bag’s dimensions make it perfectly suited to carrying common takeaway packaging items such as burger boxes, sealed bowls, sandwich packs etc. The bags can also be used to carry certain unpackaged loose items such as pastries and breads. The smaller size option provides all the same functionality and features as its larger counterpart and is ideal for individual takeaway orders.

The bags also feature an incredibly strong handle which is manufactured from from thick, twisted paper and securely glued into place. As well as providing a quality, highly tactile feel, this handle design also ensures heavier food orders, (often fulfilled by the larger bag option), are fully supported without any danger of the bag or handle tearing under strain.
